Save Money on your Wedding
Save Money on Your Wedding
Let's face it -- weddings can be expensive. You can be in debt for years if you over-do and have a more lavish event that you can afford. Being wise when planning can help you save money on your wedding.
One of the largest expenses for a wedding is for flowers. Some of the smaller, family-owned florists will offer discounts for weddings. Local markets may have florists with booths or small shops set up. Be careful to find a florist who has been recommended and has references though. You don't want to pay for flowers and not get what you expected.
If you refer to your wedding as a "family gathering" rather than a wedding or reception, you are likely to get better prices. Some vendors will boost prices when they find out it is for a wedding.
Caterers can also be expensive. See if you can find a caterer who will allow you to make arrangements for your cake -- you can almost always save money on your wedding cake if you go with a local bakery. If you have family members who are willing to help and can cook, it's not too hard to create a buffet including cold foods like cheese, salads, sandwiches, rolled meats, and other finger foods.
Bridal stores have clearance sales often. Check your local department stores for sales on wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses. If you're willing to be a little bit flexible, you can find a really nice wedding gown at an affordable price. Your bridesmaids do not all need to match. If you have a good theme you can do basically whatever you like and it will still look great.
Use your connections. Ask around. There may be a distant relative who has a friend who is a caterer, or your best friend might know a florist who is willing to give you a good deal. Sometimes your connections can save you a lot of money.
Weddings can be stressful and costly. If you take a little time to research your options you may be surprised to find out there are many ways you can save money on your wedding.
